Early Saturday morning 3rd February 2018 saw six of the Armadillo’s sisterhood come together to face GGNA for a very friendly ‘friendly’.
Despite the lack of an awesome Armadillo Centre Player the team warmed up and got ready to play…. on a full size court, no less! With great spirit GGNA kindly donated a Centre Player for each quarter, very much setting the scene for a supportive but competitive friendly.
After the first quarter the Armadillos finished just one goal behind at 5v6. A great start giving the Armadillos burning belief that this could be our game. In the same positions the team went back out with passion and determination. In particular the Armadillos wings; Sue and Saskia, played well with each other. The end of this quarter saw the Armadillos leading by 2 clear goals and GGNA winning just 3 goals from our dynamic duo defence. Quarter finished 11v9.
‘If it’s not broken, don’t fix it’ so the team went back out for the third quarter in the same positions. With great inceptions and lots of short passes the Armadillos stayed ahead. In the D the ‘shooting stars’ that we’re Angela and Jodi worked well to achieve another 7 goals, finishing 18v15.
A tired team (averaging 48 years young and playing a full-sized court!) were committed to keeping those teenagers on their toes and so headed out for the last quarter with grit. Finding space and practicing the ‘hold and drive’ the team kept going until the final whistle. The final score of our friendly ‘friendly’ was a very apt 21v21 with Ange equalising in the last 20 seconds.
The Armadillos were elated to get so many goals and to finish in such high spirits. GGNA played a generous, fair and friendly match and were a complete joy and thank you to Heidi for a great job umpiring with skill and confidence. Well done to Jodi (captain), Saskia, Sue, Ange, Sher and Carol. Very proud of you all.

Tôt samedi matin, samedi 3 février 2018, six membres de l’equipe de l’Armadillos se sont réunis pour affronter GGNA pour un «amical» très amical.
Malgré l’absence d’un impressionnant joueur de centre Armadillo, l’équipe réchauffé et prêt à jouer …. sur un grand terrain! Avec beaucoup d’esprit, GGNA a généreusement fait don d’un joueur de centre pour chaque quart de finale, ce qui a grandement contribué à créer un milieu favorable mais compétitif.
Après le premier quart-temps, les Armadillos ont terminé avec un but de moins en 5v6. Un bon début donnant la croyance brûlante Armadillos que cela pourrait être notre jeu. Dans les mêmes positions, l’équipe est revenue avec passion et détermination. En particulier les “wings” Armadillos; Sue et Saskia, ont bien joué les uns avec les autres. La fin de ce trimestre a vu les Armadillos mener par 2 buts clairs et GGNA gagner seulement 3 buts de notre défense duo dynamique. Le trimestre a terminé 11v9.
«Si ce n’est pas cassé, ne le répare pas», l’équipe est repartie pour le troisième quart dans les mêmes positions. Avec de bonnes idées et beaucoup de passes courtes, les Armadillos sont restés en tête. Dans le D les ‘étoiles filantes’ que nous sommes, Angela et Jodi ont bien travaillé pour atteindre 7 autres buts, terminant 18v15.
Une équipe fatiguée (en moyenne 48 ans et jouant sur un grand terrain!) S’est engagée à garder ces adolescents sur leurs gardes et s’est donc emportée au dernier trimestre avec beaucoup de courage. Trouver de l’espace et pratiquer le «hold and drive», l’équipe a continué jusqu’au coup de sifflet final. Le score final de notre amical ‘amical’ était un très bon 21v21 avec Ange égalisant dans les 20 dernières secondes.
Les Armadillos étaient ravis d’avoir autant de buts et de finir dans un tel état d’esprit. GGNA a joué un match généreux, juste et amical et était une joie complète et merci à Heidi pour un excellent travail d’arbitrage avec compétence et confiance. Bravo à Jodi (capitaine), Saskia, Sue, Ange, Sher et Carol. Très fier de vous tous.
