ARMADILLOS WIN THE GAME AND THE LEAGUE!
On a warm Tuesday evening late in June the Armadillos faced Tonic again in the centre of Geneva. Having drawn at the last match with Tonic, the Armadillos came with grit and determination to smash it….and indeed they did!
The first quarter was truly fast and furious for both teams and our shooters managed to net 7 goals to 3. Our play was effective, efficient and full energy…which was not expected from Tonic!
With our Armadillo shells making a great defence the second quarter saw just two goals conceded and another 6 netted by our team…with Flo getting her first goal in a real match….’gooooo Floooo’.
Back on court for the third quarter with a lead of 13 v 5 the Armadillos settled a little and took time to hold and drive. In particular this quarter saw lots of moments of brilliance from determined inceptions, accurate passing and great balls into the D. The shooters were on fire and netted an astounding 10 more goals, with our debut shooter Flo getting 4 of those.
In the fourth quarter there were a few tumbles but fortunately nothing serious and every player continued to play their final 12 minutes with the same pace as they started. The spirit between the two teams was competitive and assertive, but friendly.
The game ended with an amazing win of 35 v 13…..plus lots of sweat, red faces, smiles and importantly, no injuries. It was an absolute joy to watch the team play so well together and take a much determined and desired win!!
With the play going so well throughout no changes were made and everyone managed to have a full game.
Tonic, as wonderful hosts, laid on a homemade ‘Tonic’ cake, snacks and drinks for everyone to enjoy after the game…a very nice touch indeed.
Marney-Lea was deservedly awarded Players Player by Tonic….great game Marney. From the Captain’s bench I would also like to acknowledge the defence team….Carole, Kirstie and Marney-Lea. You were honestly like a brick wall at times. Kate was her usual leaping loon, incepting and winning the ball throughout…and of course her energy never let up throughout the whole match. Saskia also had a great game as WA and was able to receive many of the centre passes and feed effectively into the shooters. Flo’s confidence grew as the game went on and scored an amazing 9 goals in total…and bibs-off to Ange who scored a very impressive 26 goals!!

ARMADILLOS GAGNEZ LE JEU ET LA LIGUE!
Un mardi soir de fin juin, les Armadillos ont à nouveau affronté Tonic au centre de Genève. Notre dernier match avec Tonic était égal, les Armadillos sont venus avec le courage et la détermination de le briser … et en effet ils l’ont fait!
Le premier quart était vraiment rapide et furieux pour les deux équipes et nos tireurs ont réussi à marquer 7 buts à 3. Notre jeu était efficace et plein d’énergie … ce qui n’était pas attendu de Tonic!
Avec notre carapace Armadillo qui ont fait une belle défense, le deuxième quart n’a vu que deux buts encaissés et un autre 6 encaissé par notre équipe … avec Flo qui a marqué son premier but dans un vrai match. “ alleeeeezzzzz Flooooooo”
De retour sur le terrain pour le troisième quart avec une avance de 13 contre 5, les Armadillos se sont installés un peu et ont mis du temps à tenir et à conduire. En particulier, ce quart a connu de nombreux moments d’éclat grâce à des idées bien arrêtées, des passes précises et de superbes balles dans le D. Les tireurs étaient en feu et ont inscrit 10 buts de plus.
Au quatrième quart, il y a eu quelques chutes mais heureusement rien de grave et chaque joueur a continué à jouer ses dernières 12 minutes avec le même rythme qu’il a commencé. L’esprit entre les deux équipes était compétitif et affirmé, mais amical.
Le match s’est terminé sur une victoire incroyable de 35 contre 13 … plus de sueur, de visages rouges, de sourires et surtout pas de blessures. C’était une joie absolue de voir l’équipe jouer si bien ensemble et de remporter une victoire déterminée et désirée !!
Le jeu se déroulant très bien, aucun changement n’a été apporté et tout le monde a réussi à avoir un jeu complet.
Tonic, en tant que merveilleux hôtes, a préparé un gâteau «Tonic» fait maison, des snacks et des boissons pour que tout le monde puisse en profiter après le match… une très belle touche en effet.
Marney-Lea a été récompensé à juste titre “Players-player” parTonic … .grande partie Marney. Du banc des capitaines, j’aimerais aussi remercier l’équipe de défense … Carole, Kirstie et Marney-Lea. Vous étiez honnêtement comme un mur de briques par moments. Kate avait l’habitude d’avancer et de gagner le ballon tout au long de son parcours. Saskia a également eu un bon match en tant que WA et a pu recevoir plusieurs des passes du centre et se nourrir efficacement dans les tireurs. La confiance de Flo a progressé au fur et à mesure du match et a marqué un total de 9 buts au total … et une pause à Ange qui a inscrit 26 buts impressionnants !!
Enfin, un remerciement spécial à Bronwyn et John pour l’arbitrage, à Sher pour avoir marqué, Jodi pour avoir été capitaine et Karen pour l’organisation.
